
Soup
Soup is a rogue-like bullet heaven game made in collaboration with a team of 6 as an entry into the Global Game Jam 2025. This page documents my contribution to the project.
Concept sketch
The events in Soup take place in a pot of boiling soup, where the player, as a pasta submarine, shoots out hot bubbles to cook the ingredients that swarm around. Shown here is a concept sketch for the enemies: soup ingredients that take the forms of marine creatures.
Meet kale_fish, carrot_squid, and meatball_puffer. Shown here are the sprite sheets for their idle and death animations. Stock images of the ingredients are taken and manipulated into the overall forms of the marine creatures they are to represent. Segments of the images are positioned to achieve different poses.
Meet The Crab. The Crab is designed to be the final boss of the game. The crab, already a marine creature, is mutated into an eldritch tentacle monster in order to fit in with its morphed companions. SHown here are the sprite sheets for its idle, phase 1 attack, and phase 2 attack animations.
One of the diversifiers in the Global Game Jam 2025, “crafty”, asks its participants to explore the process of incorporating physically made art objects into their games. Shown here is an observational drawing of a spoon made with soft pastel on paper, which ended up acting as a UI element in the game.
An animated border for the in game view is created by collaging stock images of soup froth and scum.
